I've worked my way through nearly every newsroom role, from production to reporting to the anchor desk. That perspective still shapes how I approach a story and a newscast.

I may be an anchor, but I'm a journalist first. My favorite part of the job is getting out into the community, connecting with people and finding meaningful ways to tell their stories.
COMMUNITY
More than the stories on the newscast.
Connecting with the community does not stop when the camera does. I regularly work with local organizations, nonprofits, and schools to take part in events and activities that bring me closer to the people and places I cover.
ABOUT MATT
A newsroom career that started behind the scenes.
I joined WWAY in 2016 as a Production Assistant and worked my way through producing and reporting before moving into anchoring. Each role made me better at the next one. Producing taught me what reporters need to deliver. Reporting showed me what goes into a story before it reaches the anchor desk. And anchoring gave me another perspective on how those stories can best serve viewers.
I have been anchoring for nearly eight years and currently co-anchor Good Morning Carolina and anchor WWAY's weekday noon and 12:30 newscasts.
My reporting has taken me from hurricanes and contentious public meetings to an aircraft carrier and a Navy submarine. I also tend to be the person coworkers call when a camera, editing system or piece of newsroom technology decides it does not want to cooperate.
